Lay Leaders to Lead Services and Musicians to Accompany the Leader

Temple Shalom depends on lay leaders and musicians to be able to have services as often as it does. There is a good group now, but we always need more to help distribute the work and to prepare leadership for the future as some of the leaders, e.g., I, consider retirement. If you have been reluctant to step up to one or more of these roles, because the idea of standing up there in front of the whole congregation is daunting, then consider leading or accompanying WITH an existing leader as mentor. In Search Of Someone in Congregation with Wood-Working Skills and Access to a Lathe

The congregation needs a new roller for its older Torah scroll. We have the plans. However, implementing the plan requires use of a lathe to turn out 6 decorative wooden wheels 7.25 inches in diameter and about 1″ thick at the maximum. Kiddush Hosts Are Needed

We need hosts for the kiddush or oneg shabbat on the following service dates:

19 Jan, 26 Jan,
02 Feb, 09 Feb, 23 Feb,
02 Mar, 23 Mar, 30 Mar,
06 Apr, 13 Apr, 27 Apr,
04 May, 11 May, 25 May

Hosting a kiddush is an excellent way to honor a memorable event such as a birthday, a wedding anniversary, a yahrzeit, etc.

If you would like to host one, please send e-mail to dberry@uwaterloo.ca with possible dates. The first to request a specific date gets it.

The expenses for hosting a kiddush constitute a donation to the Temple. Save your receipts.

Please be advised, to avoid disappointment, when hosting an Oneg you should plan on bringing whatever disposable cups, plates, and utensils that will be needed if you do not wish to use and *wash the reusable kitchenware that the Cedars owns.*

Please note that as an Oneg host, you are responsible for set up and clean up. The oneg table should be prepared by 12:00 noon with juice (poured in cups) and at least one chalah covered. In addition to food, it needs plates, utensils, and napkins. After the oneg, the community room and kitchen need to be completely cleaned, floor swept, tables wiped, sink empty and all dishes put away; they will be used by other groups during the week.
